CRISPR IS COMING, 2017

Created in response to the recent advent of CRISPR technology, the illustration shows a crude representation of the operation of the Cas-9 protein, the workhorse in the CRISPR gene-editing system. Here, the image paired with the statement "PROTECT YOUR GENES" is used to start a dialog in the minds of the viewer, begging the questions: What is CRISPR? Why should I protect my genes? Although the image is not meant to demonize the subject matter, the initial shock is used to cultivate respect towards the technology. Only from a position of respect and caution may we begin to use CRISPR in a manner that will ensure progress and not abuse.
